Welcome!
You’ll know you’ve reached the fifth and sixth grade classroom when you find the students’ artwork displayed hanging from the ceiling, covering the walls, and spilling out into the hall.
In the fifth and sixth grade, as well as throughout the entire school, our purpose is to provide a thorough Christ-centered education. Jesus tells us, “Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness: and all these things (all of our physical, mental and emotional needs) will be given you as well” (Matthew 6:33). With those guiding words, religion is not just a separate subject everyday, but rather the center of every class we have. A typical week sees us studying daily such subjects as: our Christ Light curriculum or Dr. Martin Luther’s Catechism, math, English, reading, social studies, geography, science, and spelling. Other subjects taught periodically throughout the week include hymnology, physical education, current events, music, technology, and art. Departmentalizing takes place in Science and Math.
Our religion classes will be focusing on the Old Testament in Christ Light and The Creed in Catechism. The 6th grade will be traveling around the world in geography, while the 5th grade learns about our country’s history. In reading this year we will be traveling to the Old West. There we’ll meet a young boy named Adam who lives with his family in a lonely cabin in the rugged Wyoming territory. Adam’s best friend is his red pup. But when their cabin is attacked by cutthroat gold prospectors, will his best friend turn out to be his worst enemy. It’s a page turning adventure. However, we won’t forget the present or the future. In this ever-changing age of technology, we will be implementing its use to do several Power Point presentations in different subject areas. To top our year off, we will be traveling to Chicago on May 28th to visit the Science and Industry Museum. We’d love for you to visit our classroom at any time!
